We have been loving our iPad minis in our classrooms.  The best part about the technology is the ever-changing range of apps that are available to us.  Here is a list of more apps we have been using in the classroom:

Toontastic Jr. (free)
Similar to Toontastic, but simplified for younger students.  Allows students to create, animate, and dictate a story.

Crazy Gears ($0.99)
Allows students to manipulate gears, chains, rods, and pulleys to pull themselves through each level.  It teaches students how different mechanisms affect one another.

Martha Speaks a Story (free)
Students can create an interactive story and have it read back to them.  The app also teaches and reinforces new vocabulary words.

Endless Wordplay (free)
Students build words with increasing difficulty.  Introduces key spelling patterns and phonograms important for beginning spellers and writers.

The Math Tree ($0.99)
Introduces and reinforces addition, subtraction, and numerical equations.

Skitch (free)
Students can take a picture (or find a picture online) and label, draw, and share it with friends.  Great for early writers to practice labeling or use as a story starter.

Epic! (free for 2 months)
An extensive eBook library with thousands of high-quality and high-interest children's books.  Contains early readers to chapter books, and many have a "read-to-me" feature and comprehension activities.  To get the app free for two months, visit www.getepic.com/promo and type in the code EpicReading.
